MaryEllen Tunsky
Board of Education
MaryEllen has been a resident of Suffield for 29 years. Married to John P. Tunsky, they are the proud parents of two children, Jon and Katie. Both children graduated from Suffield High School and are attending college.
She holds a B.S.W. in Social Work from Westfield State College. For the last several years she has served as a volunteer advocate throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. Her knowledge of federal and state statutes such as, ADA, NCLB, IDEA, and the Rehabilitation Act, will make her an invaluable member of the Board of Education.
As a former PTO Co-President, MaryEllen has served on a variety of education task groups in Suffield.
The Tunsky family has raised two German Shepherd puppies for the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation. Jodie, a retired Fidelco dog, visits area elementary schools and hospitals with MaryEllen to help educate children and adults about guide dogs.
Professional affiliations include; The National Association of Social Workers, New England Organization of Human Services Education (NEOHSE), and LDA of America. Her affiliation has also included presentations on advocacy at NEOHSE conferences and also area colleges.
When it comes to education she believes, “A successful education is achieved with an equal balance of student teacher parent teamwork.”
